Healthy Balance

Thanksgiving was a wonderful day at our house. We were surrounded by friends and family and food. My husband fried a turkey for the first time, and though my traditional roasted turkey came in a far second choice to his fried turkey, I was grateful we didn't become a newspaper blurb statistic by catching our house on fire.

As has been the case in years past, one of my favorite parts of the holiday came at 7:00am Friday morning, when I nestled into the couch with pie in one hand and the remote in the other. Once my children awoke,  I corralled them into my bedroom with a movie and closed the door while I watched a pay per view movie of my own. My husband was on a bike ride and because I had been looking forward to this time for days (literally), I knew that waiting for his return for my favorite holiday tradition to begin would just NOT DO. Each time the bedroom door opened and I heard little feet or little voices I would call, "Back in the bedroom until Mommy's movie is done." For a few moments I felt the usual maternal guilt permeating through the comfy blanket that covered me. But, I worked through it with a few more bites of pie, Sarah Jessica Parker and "the girls".  Life is all about a healthy balance.

Because of my quality time with my couch and my pie, I was able to go through the rest of the day knowing that I had taken care of myself. A task that we mothers all too often forget. I figured maybe I would even be more relaxed about decorating the tree. I had visions of  letting the kids express their creativity by placing ornaments wherever they chose and my being satisfied with the outcome of their decorating, no matter how it manifested itself.

I was more relaxed about decorating. This year I waited patiently for my three wonderful kids to go outside and play before I carefully took the clumped together ornaments they had placed and balanced them throughout the beautiful, humble tree we all chose together.

Lesson 2 - Google Accounts and VCR's

So, my mother is now officially following the blog. Is it because she rushed to her computer as soon as I let her know of my new undertaking?

No it is not. It is because  I  signed her up for a google account, went to my blog, (as if I have had this ownership of it for years) and clicked, FOLLOW THIS BLOG.

Calm down, Mom - I know you are super supportive of me. I couldn't have done MANY of the things in life I have without your constant love and guidance. The truth is, I winced the same way you did when I saw I would have to DO SOMETHING, like sign up for an account in order to access this blog as well as the many others I will follow as soon as I get a moment to do a little research and check some out. By the way, any suggestions?

Actually signing up for the account wasn't that bad. You are asked only a few questions: name, email, password and birthday - maybe I will send you a card or a gift!  It was about the same amount of time and energy it used to take to set the clock on the VCR.

I used to hate it when my mom asked me to set the clock on the VCR. Now, I have come to the painful realization that life cycles. There are so many things that are necessary to complete and learn in daily life as a parent, an employee, an employer, an adult in general, that one little thing like setting the clock on the VCR probably won't  put one over the edge but may sometimes feel like it. I will ask my kids for similar favors much sooner than I'd like to think. In the meantime, signing Ila up for her account was a good thing. It taught me how to create an account!

First Lesson...

Okay, so here is a lesson learned already. When starting a blog apparently you have to be the first to follow it. Such a lonely, but valuable lesson.

I am hoping that this blog will serve to communicate with all of the many, many followers (surely you will follow me right, Mom?) about my process in design and the many lessons I learn along the way. I really do think there is something to learn from everything that happens in life.

I like to learn from others as well, so Mom - feel free to post any silly or otherwise lessons you learn in your day to day life!

Don't be misguided. There will be photos of my kids, as I am often gushing with pride and they are often the source of my lessons, but I will not gratuitously post and will always draw the line at sharing any "potty" stories.

There may also be actual photos of 2MYLU items as well as special offers and savings!

As I know you are just as busy as I am, I will keep things short and sweet.
